Eulogy

Eulogy

I met my love one day
out near the giant bay,
and when she sang her song,
she asked if I would sing along.

We spent the next few years
    rolling in the oceans,
    diving in the reefs,
    and contemplating our emotions.

Never had I known one
so graceful and sublime.
Then the monsters came
and cut off her time.

They came in big ships of wood
and I knew they were no good
when I saw those steel harpoons
I had not seen in many moons.

She thought they couldn't touch us,
    rolling in the oceans,
    diving in the reefs,
    and communicating our emotions.

But I knew better and
I told my love to flee
fast as she could.
alas, she didn't hear me.

O why must they destroy my kind?
They kill my friends and warp my mind!
Sometimes when I see the land
I dream of dying on dry sand.

    Then I recall the times
    rolling in the oceans,
    diving in the reefs,
    and consummating our emotions.

No, I'll never give myself.
No, I never will resign!
They stole my love from me
for their evil designs.
